The Lens Based Image

A juried exhibition featuring mixed media works that are lens based and incorporate photography at any point in the process.  

In order to be considered for the exhibit, you must submit the following:

Eligibility: This juried exhibition is open to national and international artists (professional, emerging, and student).

Media/Genre: Open to works of all genres and media.

Guest Curator : Meryl Truett

Guest Curator's Biography: SCAD Photography professor, Meryl Truett’s new mixed media series is a postmodern homage to turn of the century Pictorialist photographers and the decorative arts. Appropriating the images of Clarence White, Robert Demachy, E.J. Constant Puyo, Heinrich Beck, and Wilhelm von Gloeden,  Truett’s photo transfers incorporate ceiling tiles from the era and vintage wallpaper designs.

Meryl Truett is a fine art and editorial photographer whose work is exhibited and collected nationwide. She graduated in 2003 with a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design with additional art training in France.  She has received numerous awards including an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Tennessee Arts Commission. She was named one of Five Artists to Collect by the Savannah Morning News in 2007. Her work is in the permanent collections of Telfair Museum of Art/Jepson Center for the Arts, Vanderbilt University, the Morris Museum of Art and Savannah College of Art and Design.

Among the many publications featuring her photographs are: Art Papers, Darkroom Magazine, Petersen's Photographic, Camera Austria, Nashville Scene, Nashville Life, The Vanderbilt Review, Connect Savannah, Savannah Magazine, deep magazine, Skirt!, Atlanta Journal Constitution and Creative Loafing. A second printing of Thump Queen and Other Southern Anomalies, a book of fine art photographs depicting the quirkier side of southern living was released last year.

Delivery & Return of Work:  All work accepted for the exhibition must arrive ready to install.  Work that is not ready to hang or that does not exhibit good craftsmanship may be omitted from the exhibit.  Work that differs significantly from its entry image may be disqualified.  Work can be hand delivered or shipped.  Hand delivered work must be picked up from the gallery by the date specified (see Deadlines).  Desotorow Gallery is not responsible for work left beyond the date specified.  Shipped work must be sent in a reusable container with return shipping prepaid.  Work should be securely packaged, clearly labeled, and sent with a return shipping label.  Work will be returned in the same manner as delivered, or via UPS/USPS.  Accepted work will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.

Entry Fee:  You may submit up to three pieces for a non-refundable entry fee of $15.  The entry fee may be paid online or with cash, check, or money order (checks and money orders should be made payable to DESOTOROW GALLERY). 

Sale of Work:  Desotorow Gallery, Inc. will not take commission on the sale of artwork.  Payment will be made directly to artists.

Images: Desotorow only accepts digital images for consideration. Images must meet the following specifications:

File Names: Artist’s last name followed by the entry number (i.e. Smith01.jpg, Smith02.jpg)

File Size: Images must be saved in a HIGH QUALITY JPEG format at 72 DPI and no smaller than 1000 pixels in any direction.

March 26 Submissions Due by 5pm EST
March 29 Notifications Emailed
April 7 Accepted Work Due to Gallery
April 9 Opening Reception
April 21 Exhibition Closes
April 23 Return of Work Begins (Pick-up/Ship)
May 7 Deadline for the Pick-Up of Work

Submit images using a CD/DVD and clearly label it with your full name and contact information. CD/DVDs will not be returned. 

To Submit via Email:  Email all materials to info@desotorow.org.  Include your full name in the subject along with “The Lens Based Image”.

Marketing:  Desotorow Gallery reserves the right to use images of accepted works for promotional purposes.  The gallery may request hi-res images of accepted work upon notification.

Liability:  Desotorow Gallery will take the utmost care with your work.  Insurance will not be provided for any artwork while on Desotorow Gallery, Inc.’s premises.  Desotorow Gallery, Inc. bears no responsibility and is not liable for damage to, theft of, or change in the condition of artwork while on the gallery premises or as a result of participation with the gallery.  The gallery is not responsible for any damage occurred during shipping.

you consent to all the conditions specified in the above guidelines. 
Incomplete submissions or submissions that do not comply
with the above guidelines will not be considered.
