The Return of the "Other"
MFA Photography Thesis Exhibit
by Wed Jawad
This show consists of sculptural interactive sets that Wed constructed to express her intellectual and emotional preparation for her transition home, in combination with still images taken from the Saudi media that align with her positive memories of Saudi. These images represent Wed's trials in attempting to navigate Saudi Arabia, trying to relearn and reconnect with it. Through the video piece, she shows her Western side interacting with her traditional side, preparing each other for what comes next, a smoother transition between her two selves, a smoother return.

Saigon to Hanoi
by Michelle Cornejo
As I travel this world, I am filled with experiences, both good and bad, that change the way I see things and the way I live my life. The images in this series are windows to Vietnam's people, landscape and culture; they are experiential chronicles of the moments that mattered most on my journey across this land; they are documents of my memories. They are manifestations of a country of flux and progress, whose people are open to new ideas and social diversity, while also being steadfast in maintaining their cultural traditions. This series is a testimony of my encounters in Vietnam and reminders that "one sees clearly only with curiosity, with empathy, with affection" (Pablo Corral). These photographs are my experience; the tools that have shaped my life and my self. As a documentary photographer, I can think of nothing more important than sharing my experience and understandings with others in hopes of opening eyes and minds.

The Geometry of Things
by Rachel Ormiston
These images confront a severe resistance to change, resulting in an overwhelming compulsion to control through the act of removal. Left with only the comforting, these photographs present the struggle between perfection and flaw, control and the uncontrollable, constancy and inevitable change.
